Pilates in Fitness Training

Popular coverage often presents the fitness training applications of Pilates as an exercise routine. This application of Pilates is widespread, as found in Pilates classes in many gyms and leisure centres.

The term 'fitness Pilates' is often applied to such classes that people of various fitness levels, and of mixed abilities in Pilates, join simply to enjoy Pilates as a way to improve their general physical fitness.

In many such classes exercises may not take cater for the specific requirements of individuals and may be lead by someone who has the minimum qualification only as a Pilates instructor.

Fitness Pilates is distinguished from 'Clinical Pilates' in which Pilates techniques are applied as a treatment for certain clinical conditions. There is more on this application of Pilates on my Clinical Pilates page.

Benefits of Pilates in Fitness Training

Benefits that Pilates can bring to a fitness training and exercise programmes include:

  • Improvements to posture and balance
  • Increases in strength, including strengthening the core, see core stability
  • Increases in stamina
  • Preventing injury.

Small Pilates Classes

My Pilates classes, held in my private studio, have no more than five people in them. With this small number there is time to address individual needs and objectives.

You might consider one of my classes if you feel you need more benefits and personal attention than you receive from your workouts or if you feel that a one-to-one is really more than you need.

At my Pilates classes you benefit from the camaraderie of joining in with others, and you recieve some personal attention from a fully qualified Pilates instructor.

Pilates in One-to-One Fitness Training

If you simply do not like classes or you want the full, undivided attention of a qualified Pilates instructor, then a one-to-one is a great option.

For those following a sport, energetic pastime or determined fitness programme, I have integrated Pilates routines into activities, aiming to achieve the best muscular and skeletal balance essential for their full enjoyment of their efforts, however energetic.

Golf, badminton, tennis, squash, rugby, football, cricket and so on, even walking, all make physical demands on the body. Pilates, applied appropriately, can condition muscles to meet these demands, thus improving performance and reducing the risk of injury.

Your Assessment for Your One to One Pilates

The evaluation is the most important aspect of our work together. At your first appointment I shall ask a series of questions about your state of health and fitness, and then complete a full fitness assessment. This will provide the understanding upon which to develop your personal Pilates programme.

If you intend to add Pilates to an existing fitness training programme or regular exercise routine, then at our one-to-one we can work out the best way to integrate Pilates into your schedule.
